Dekai, Metanoia Editorial Team – A thanksgiving service to celebrate the 17th Anniversary of the Youth Fellowship (PAM) of Metanoia was held solemnly in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua Province, on Wednesday, June 21, 2024. The event took place at the Old Metanoia Church with the theme, “The Love of Christ Inspires the Church to Fulfill Justice, Peace, and Prosperity”, and the sub-theme, “Through the 17th Anniversary Celebration of PAM GKI Metanoia, We Are Invited to Love and Support Each Other in Enhancing Capacities (Gifts, Talents) to Realize Love and Peace in Serving Others, as Responsible Youth of the Church,” based on 1 Peter 3:8-12.

The service, led by Rev. Alfons Reumi, S.Si.Teol, was filled with meaningful reflections. In his sermon titled “Becoming a Vessel for God in Youth: Shine as Light”, Rev. Alfons urged the youth to take responsibility for themselves, God, and the church.

“Youth should not be spent on self-interest but should focus on doing the best for God,” he emphasized. He also highlighted the importance of self-discipline, both in serving at Metanoia Church and in daily life.

The scripture for the sermon was taken from 2 Chronicles 34:3 and 1 Peter 3:8-12, where Rev. Alfons reminded attendees about the power of the tongue. “The tongue, though small, can bring destruction if not used wisely. Guard your tongue, and be mindful of how you speak to others,” he advised.

The event was attended by senior leaders of PAM GKI Metanoia, invited guests, and was solemnly guided by MC Gladis. On behalf of the PHMJ, the PAM mentoring council expressed gratitude for the hard work of the youth in organizing the event despite its proximity to the church's anniversary celebration.

In his remarks, PAM Chairman Septinus Boerdam expressed his appreciation to Rev. Alfons, alumni, and senior members who participated. “God has helped us through this event because this is the first time we’ve been able to organize it as an independent congregation,” he concluded.

The 17th Anniversary celebration of PAM Metanoia marked a significant moment for the youth to continue contributing to church service and community life, strengthening the foundation of their faith, and upholding their commitment to Christian values.
