DEKAI, Metanoia Editorial Team – The GKI Metanoia Youth and Children Fellowship (PAR) Christmas celebration was held solemnly and joyfully on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the GKI Metanoia Church Building. The Christmas service was led by Rev. Alfons Reumy, S.Theol, and began with offerings of praise and dance performances by Sunday School children, ranging from kindergarten to Bible Youth classes, as well as a special Christmas dance presentation by students of YPK Metanoia Dekai Elementary School.

The event was attended by more than 450 people, including PHMJ, organizational leaders, parents, and all PAR members of GKI Metanoia congregation.

Christmas Theme and Message

This year’s PAR Christmas carried the theme: “Let Us Now Go to Bethlehem” (Luke 2:15), with scripture readings from Matthew 1:21-23. In his sermon, Rev. Alfons Reumy invited all attendees to reflect on the meaning of Jesus' name as a helper, savior, and Immanuel, which means "God with us."

“The name of Jesus brings forgiveness of sins and guides us to Heaven. Therefore, parents are encouraged to bring their children into fellowship so that they can better understand the meaning of Jesus’ name in their lives,” said Rev. Alfons.

He concluded his sermon with a key message: “Through PAR Christmas, we are invited to make Jesus our foundation wherever we go, as Jesus is the Immanuel for all of us.”

Message from the PAR Chairperson

In her remarks, PAR Chairperson Kakak Aplena Kaiway Boerdam expressed gratitude for the successful implementation of this year’s PAR Christmas celebration, attributing it to the collaboration of parents, Sunday School teachers, and PAR children.

“Thank you to all parents who have supported the children through the Kartu Kawan program, enabling the 2024 PAR Christmas celebration to run smoothly,” said Kakak Aplena.

She also reminded everyone that although Christmas has been celebrated, Sunday School services will continue weekly to guide children in understanding their faith in Jesus.

As a closing note, Kakak Aplena issued a cautionary reminder to children not to participate in risky activities such as playing with fireworks or carbide cannons during the Christmas and New Year season. “These are dangerous, and we should prepare for Christmas and New Year with meaningful activities,” she emphasized.

A Moment of Faith Strengthening and Fellowship

The PAR Christmas celebration at GKI Metanoia became a significant moment for strengthening faith and fellowship among children and the congregation. With its strong theme and profound messages, the event is expected to instill the values of faith in Jesus Christ early, serving as a foundation for their life journeys.
